The Wānaka tree, sometimes known as lone tree of lake Wānaka is considered to be the most photographed tree in New Zealand.
Interestingly the tree started life as a fence post, a cut branch from a nearby willow outcrop in the late 1930's to keep local sheep from wandering into town.
